SPAR`s Stuffed with Love campaign came to an end last week on Friday 31 March. The response to the toy drive was overwhelming, and as always, SPAR Zimbabwe is humbled by the generosity and kindness of the community.
Issues to do with Children are at the forefront of SPAR Zimbabwe's responsible retailing pillars, along with Women, protecting the Environment, promoting a Healthy & Active Lifestyle, and Animal Welfare.
The initial target of 1,500 toys was greatly surpassed by the mountains of stuffed toys, hard toys, books, puzzles, and clothes that were collected by customers, supply partners, schools and local communities. SPAR Zimbabwe even received a bicycle, and a whole family of teddy bears that had been specially hand knitted for the toy drive.
The first handover of toys from the Stuffed With Love Campaign was done on Wednesday the 29th of March 2023 to Kidzcan at their Rainbow Children`s Village. Daniel Mckenzie, The Director of Kidzcan accepted the toys on behalf of the children who are housed at the Rainbow Children`s Village whilst undergoing their treatment in Oncology wards.
Toys were also donated to Childline Zimbabwe, who will distribute them to all of their drop-in centres around the country. Two more donations to the children's oncology wards at Mpilo hospital in Bulawayo and Parirenyatwa in Harare are scheduled for later in the week.
"This was a fantastic campaign and we are simply delighted with the overwhelming generosity and support we have received from the community. A little bit goes a long way," said Cypren Borerwe, General Manager of SPAR Zimbabwe. "We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Stuffed With Love campaign - our Customers, Supply Partners, Community groups and Schools (Chisipite Senior, Chisipite Junior, Hartmann House, St. Johns ECD and Bushbabies). As we like to say at SPAR, we are always Better Together!"
